The Birth of a New Woman | CT Motherhood Photographer

Through my journey as a photographer, I have craved connection and meaning for the portraits I create. A reason for the creation of these images. When I am able to create an image that holds meaning for the person I make it for, my heart and soul is fed like no else.

Meet Victoria, my good friend and fellow photographer. She owns Victoria Brown Photography and specializes in documenting birth in a beautiful, honest, sacred way. 18 months ago she endured a life shattering event; the beginning of a divorce. She moved back up to CT with her 3 young children, to navigate life and pick up the pieces.

I met her after all of this. As she was rising from the ashes, like a beautiful, strong phoenix.

A few months ago we were sitting outside the pub, a couple a beers, talking by the fire in the moonlight. We talked about life and kids and photography.

She told me that she wanted to have pictures taken, portraits that showed her strength, her fierceness, something that celebrated this new season of her life. She asked if that was silly and I said hell no! That is an amazing idea, and I wanted to be the one to do this for her.

We met at Valley Falls in Vernon, CT. I knew I wanted to get her into a stream or river, letting the water symbolize change, transformation, and “washing away” this past life; entering this new beginning.

We captured the essence of her. This new season of life where she finds strength within herself she didn’t know she had.

This new woman, born again.
